"Humanity has advanced, when it has advanced, not because it has been sober, responsible, and cautious, but because it has been playful, rebellious, and immature."
Tom Robbins
Uniqueness and exclusivity are (more often, than not) characteristics that are held in very high regard. This is due to the ingenuity which is required to develop and/or attain such distinctions. Our love of uniqueness and exclusivity speaks to the human need to feel special in some way, shape or form. When a product has the gall and gumption to refer to itself as "the world's first and/or only anything", it is demanding and (at least initially) deserving of attention. Ventura was a small Swiss watch maker who had the gall and gumption to be daring, to try something new and different. By manufacturing the VEN_99 movement, Ventura became the "World's only manufacturer of automatic digital watches". A noteworthy claim for Ventura upon which to hang their collective hats.

Unfortunately, like most genius when it is a little too ahead of it's time, it doesn't get recognized until it's demise. Ventura filed for bankruptcy in 2007. Thankfully however, their watches can still by purchased through selected retailers and the secondary market. Ventura watches have gained a new distinction and have now also arguably become the "world's most highly sought after digital watch maker"...
