Theophilus London thinks every day should be a holiday. (We agree).

"Style is knowing who you are, what you want to say and not giving a damn."
Gore Vidal

The Sophistiques have always given extra credit for stylish presentation. Homage has been paid in the past to such individuals as Kanye West and Wynter Gordon in part, due to this very concept. And with Brooklyn's own Theophilus London, we have effortlessly kept with this tradition. It takes bravery and courage to break from the norm and do something that maybe perceived as odd at first glance but, Theophilus London lacks for neither bravery nor courage. He isn't a darling of the music critics but he has "SOPHISTIQUE" written all over him. (We salute you brother!)

Theophilus London's look and sound both hark back to the best of the 80's. The Theophilus London "brand" can be thought of as an extended version of Whodini meets LL Cool J circa "I Need Love" (1987) mixed in with Morrissey and equally large amounts of pop chart aspirations. His debut album is expected to be released sometime this year, but his sound can be appreciated immediately through his mixtapes ("I Want You", "This Charming Mixtape" and "Lovers Holiday").

in the words of Theophilus London..."I inspire you and water inspires me/See, water's inside of you/And the ways the trees were made on the earth for us to breathe/You're a chick or a breeze/You're a cough, I'm a sneeze/This is come/Brooklyn, yeah, we on/Leave ya head in the fridge, I'm talking Jeffrey Dahmer/Yeah, these tight jeans"

The Solowheel...Standout from the Crowd

"I do my dirt all by my lonely"
Anthony "Treach" Criss

HEAR YE, HEAR YE. THE UNICYCLE IS RE-BORN!!!! No longer will it be mockingly recognized as a mode of clown transportation. The Solowheel has ARRIVED!!!! For all the tree huggers, techie geeks and minimalists, a people-mover has been developed with YOU in mind. Additionally, what makes the Solowheel extra super-duper cool is that it allows the rider to perpetually achieve that "Spike Lee floating effect" (that alone is worth the asking price).

The Solowheel is completely battery operated and extremely easy to learn. It weighs only 20 lbs and conveniently folds up for effortless portability. An alternative name would have been the "Bat-O-Cycle" (yeah... that sounds cooler).

If you don't STAND for something, you'll fall for anything...

The Male Brain (it's bigger than you think)

"The male is a domestic animal which, if treated with firmness, can be trained to do most things."
Jilly Cooper

Men like to think and use their brains. Men have feelings and emotions. So what if testosterone just happens to limit the subject matter men think and feel strongly about (...life is complicated enough). When Dr. Louann Brizendine initially embarked on writing her second book "The Male Brain" (which is the follow up to her best seller "The Female Brain") she was greeted by such comments as "That will be a short book! Maybe more of a pamphlet." HOW INSULTING IS THAT!?!?! (as I said, men do have feelings... I think I'm gonna cry). Through her clinical research, Dr. Brizendine has found the male brain to be a "lean mean problem-solving machine." The next time you ladies are out driving with your boyfriends or husbands he isn't lost, he's just problem solving...

In the male brain, testosterone is KING and he reigns supreme. Dr. Brizendine goes on to explore why this is actually very necessary. The male brain and the female brain are fundamentally different but this is to the mutual benefit of both groups. The greater a female's ability to understand male-speak and the male's ability to understand female-speak will lead to better and healthier relationships.

The Sweetest Taboo: The Star Apple

"The mountain water that fell white from the mill wheel
sprinkling like petals from the star-apple trees"

Derek Walcott

Fruits are the ripened and seed-bearing OVARIES of flowers. This clearly explains the seductive relationship foodies have with some fruit. The word "orgasmic" comes to mind when describing one of natures more enticing offerings... the star apple. The star apple has inspired some to consume the fruit exclusively in the nude (...or is that just me). Maybe money doesn't grow on trees but sex apparently does.

Star apples are a custardy delight that can be found throughout the tropics from Africa to South Asia and from the Caribbean to South and Central America where it is known as caimito. The fruit can be found with either purple or green skin (both are equally DELICIOUS!!!!). I do have a WARNING!!! however, for the first time indulgers of the almighty star apple. The rind and skin are not to be eaten (attempting to do so will be problematic). Like every rose has thorns, the pleasures offered by the star apple must be enjoyed carefully.
