"Food is an important part of a balanced diet."Fran Lebowitz
The football preseason is in full swing. As the guys work hard to stay fit and make the final cut, I'm working hard to avoid ever getting a gut. Have you been working out but not seeing the results you expected? Is time in short supply for you, so you're unable to workout as much as you'd like? Some of us may need to explore our diets. The body is sacred temple and there are a lot of us who really need the pay more attention to what we allow into our sacred temples.
Determining what to eat could vary greatly depending on what your person goals are for your workout. So, with the help of my resident fitness maven John Rankin, I've compiled a short list of things to avoid or a least limit to a great extent. To avoid turning the ball over on downs, try avoiding the following as much as possible...
Sugar (1st down) - also known as sucrose, lactose, and fructose can lead to fatty deposits in the body. The way body breaks down sugar can be very counter productive to your goals.
Salt (2nd down) - also known as sodium can lead to heart issues. The heart is the most important muscle and anything that has a negative affect on it needs to be avoided. For instance, high sodium intake will affect your stamina.
Fats (3rd and Long) - especially trans fats which are also known partially hydrogenated "ANYTHING". This man made preservative is a MUST avoid. Our body are evolved enough to break this stuff (and I mean STUFF) down.
Food packages that read like paragraphs (4th down) - if the stuff on the packaging doesn't sound like it could grow in your back yard, you should probably avoid it.
It's in your best interest to avoid turning the ball over on downs (or getting sacked, fumbling the ball, throwing an interception...etc.) Stay clear of these No-No's and
Just go for the end zone...
