You're Speeding Tickets Don't Scare Me...

"I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered."
George Best

Every one should have a fast car. Speed is our God given right. We will never be truly free until speed is available to all man, woman and child...(the crowd roars with applause). The U.S. Constitution allows us to carry guns but the highways and byways limits us to what 65 maybe 75 mph. Where is the justice... where is the humanity?

Thank God for Caterham Cars, the manufacturer of specialist lightweight sports cars based in Caterham, Surrey, England. The Caterham 7 (the only model) is a direct descendant of the Colin Chapman developed Series 3 Lotus Seven produced in 1968. The Caterhams are a perfect balance of personality and performance (I love their look). 5 variations are offered. From the entry level Classic to the top of the line CSR, the Caterham performance is ultimately satisfying with zero to sixty times ranging for 6.5 sec to 3.7 secs.

They have this saying about "Living life in the fast lane"... but is there really any other lane???

The Top Of New York

"Be not ashamed of thy virtues; honor's a good brooch to wear in a man's hat at all times."
Ben Jonson

Imagine Indiana Jones without his fedora. Picture Abe Lincoln without his top hat. Envision Re-run (of What's Happening!! fame) without his beret. All would be incomplete illustrations.

During my morning ride on the "E" train, I came across an article by Ray Smith in the Wall Street Journal entitled "Discovering Hats, a New Generation Brims With Anxiety Over Etiquette: Old Rules Flummox Young Hipsters; 'I'm Wearing an $80 Fedora!'". Although I loved the article, I felt there was a glaring omission. I'm a true blue New Yorker and a conversation about hats and New York truly seems incomplete without mention of J.J. Hat Center. (This is not a plug, so much as it is a New Yorker being a opinionated New Yorker (it is after all... what we do best)).

J.J. Hat Center was established 1911, (J.J. been helping men complete they're illustrations for a long time!) making it the oldest hat store in the city. I've always ran a very fashion conscious crowd. I discovered J.J. Hat Center when one of my dudes Maurice Spencer (Sup, Mo!!) wanted a derby to wear to the prom (I won't say long ago that was but... some time had passed to say the least). I walked by there a few weeks ago and I was delighted to see that the store was still going strong. They're still helping folks complete their illustrations...

If your in the New York City area and wish to experience, THE experience first hand, you'll find there store @ 310 Fifth Ave. New York, NY 10016. You can call for directions at 800-622-1911.

The Men's Wear Freedom Fighter

"Bravery never goes out of fashion."
William Makepeace Thackeray

I've found my hero... and his name is Matthew Farnes. A Savile Row veteran turned "rogue tailor". Farnes was a standout as a fabric cutter for the bespoked institution of Ede & Ravenscroft. Then, in a seen reminiscent of Luke Skywalker going against the darkside (in my imagination), Farnes left E&R to venture out on his own. Farnes is quoted as saying "I want to break down the barriers around Savile Row". Those words almost brought me to tears when I realized... I had found my hero. Not only is Farnes a fellow men's wear maven but a blogger (The Savile Row Artisan) as well... I was taken aback. The kicker is Farnes, also possesses conviction (nuff said!).

A Farnes masterpiece starts at $3,180 (which is a third less than other Savile Row craftsmen). Farnes' fight has brought "bespoke" that much closer to the average man's grasp. (And society will forever be better for it).

Give me BESPOKE or give me DEATH...
