Lewis Carroll
...A pair sneakers (good sneakers) ...a few miles of concrete and asphalt ...an iPod (for my sanity (long story)) ...and now it's time to play. Running is one of the most rewarding and invigorating solitary sports. The combination of concentration on one body, one mission and one goal as you power through each and every step can lead to an almost instant gratification. If you have friends who can (at times) be as lazy mine, running can be a heaven sent solution (running = NO partners necessary). ...Rain, sleet, snow or hail!!!!
When you really get in a rhythm, you and your body enter a state Daniel Goleman in his book "Emotional Intelligence" refers to as "FLOW". Flow is "the ultimate in harnessing the emotions in the service of performance and learning". Some professional athletes refers to it as the Zone. Whatever, you'd like to call it, it's exhilarating.

A few years back, I was walking through Times Square and I came across this Under Armour/ Brand Jacobs' (of the New York Giants football team) billboard. The print reads "Some athletes run to train. Some athletes train to run. But make no mistakes - ALL ATHLETES RUN". Those words have stuck with me ever since. And now, I'm hoping they'll stick with you.
