All White Everything

Ah sweet Summer! Summer is what I like to call the mating season. The season just lends itself to romance. Copious amounts of skin is exposed (both sexes), attention is paid to long neglected body parts i.e. feet (hopefully both sexes), and last but certainly not least is the advent of white.

Michelle Obama - The First Lady

No other shade says Summer has arrived like white. Pure, bright, white reigns supreme during the Summer. It's the perfect accent to that newly acquired sun-kissed look and it compliments all skin tones thus making it a fave of yours truly.

It manifests itself in various fabrics and weights; linen, pima cotton, a crisp poplin, matte jersey, silk, and modal. White comes in all forms- shirts, slacks, shoes, sandals, mandals, dresses, T-shirts, shorts, capris, bermuda shorts and of course my favorite the white linen suit. It can be casual day wear or elegant evening attire (one should know the difference).

Sting - The Music Legend (with his wife Trudie Styler)

While white can be many things, two things it is not is forgiving and long lasting. Much like the Summer season, white can be a brutal and fleeting mistress. So there are some things one should bear in mind before courting said mistress. Care is key to wearing white. All white garments need to be lovingly washed. This is not a time for cutting corners, this is a time for serious deliberation and frankness (this is one of the hallmarks that separates the men/women from the boys/girls)!

For upkeep these are a good set of general washing rules: http://www.ehow.com/m/how_2139352_wash-whites.html

All the benefits of Alcoholism... without the bad stuff

"It's a sure sign of summer if the chair gets up when you do."
Walter Winchell

COT DAMN, IT'S HOT!!! If you're on my side of the planet, there's no doubt you'll agree. It's so hot and humid, the heat hugs you like a tight union suit. I "MUST" find some sort of relief from this heat. While I browsed the aisle of my local Whole Foods Market, I came across something that was so cool, it was HOT. I'd like to share with you a sweet sensation called Wine Cellar Sorbets. With flavors such as Champagne, Mimosa, Sangria, Sake, Ruby Port, Rose, Riesling, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon, Wine Cellar Sorbets may seem to appeal to the imbibers among us but, since these products are non-alcoholic, they can truly (and safely) be enjoyed by all. We now have 9 more reasons to love the summer (God IS good!!!).

The "sweet" science of this sorbet recipe was concocted my two friends for the Q Boro (QUEENS STAND UP!!!). Bret Birnbaum and David Zablocki were both lovers of God's Nectar. While working as a chef at the Big Sur in California back in 2000, Mr. Zablocki became acquainted in wine sorbet. (Why didn't I think of this!?!?). He came back to New York and told his best bud Mr. Birnbaum and the two set out on their venture of producing a dairy free, gluten free, fat free and all natural piece of heaven in a cup. We, the humble public, will forever be in your debt gentlemen...

(Not that you asked...) but "MY" favorite flavors are Rose, Sangria and Reisling...

Reaction of a Wine Cellar Sorbet virgin

Also, "HEY Bret and Dave, how about a line of sorbets for the alcoholics among us???" (I'm just thinking out loud...Pay me no mind)

Why Serena Williams is The Real... Five Star B****...

"Appreciation is a wonderful thing: It makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well."
Voltaire (1694 - 1778)

We at, the Sophistiques, would like to show our appreciation for Ms. Serena Williams and we implore our readers to follow suit. Ladies take notes. Men stand at attention (pardon the pun). She recently won her fourth Wimbledon singles Grand Slam (her 13th singles Grand Slam overall). She is currently ranked FOURTH!!! all time in women's singles Grand Slams behind Steffi graf, Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova (very exclusive company. (Plus, she has the body of a GODDESS!!!!!)

She was born in Saginaw, Michigan and we all know she's the younger sister of Venus Williams. She started playing tennis at the age of 4. From the age of 14, she has been coached by her father. The tennis world (and the world on whole) has been forced to pay homage ever since. (Plus, she has the body of a GODDESS!!!!!)

Ms. Williams has sponsorships with Nike, HP, Wilson, EA Sports and Gatorade (to name a few). She is also in the process of launching the Serena Williams Foundation, which will be providing scholarships to high school students all over the country. Being thankful for the educational support she received while growing up, Ms. Williams wanted to enable other children to strive for the same educational successes. (Plus, she has the body of a GODDESS!!!!!)

Her serves aren't the only things that have amazing curves (and I'm not talking about her volleys)...

Her ESPN "The Body Issue" Cover

The Lady in Red has a MEAN backhand... (and incredible legs)...

This should be illegal... (ESPN "The Body Issue")

Ms. Williams polishing her craft.

Jason Gay, a writer with the Wall Street Journal, wrote that Serena Williams "might be the U.S.'s most underappreciated sports star." We, the Sophistiques would like to see that change.

Serena Williams... Now, That's a Five Star B****!!!
